If you plan to pursue a professional career in the music or dance field, you are obliged to start at an early age. As a young musician in Rotterdam there are numerous ways in which to prepare yourself for a bachelor course in Music. Next to a wide variety of good music schools, the Rotterdam Conservatoriore (RC) offers preparatory courses, giving  young talent the opportunity to develop their skills at an early age: the Junior class and the Havo voor Muziek en Dans. A coordinator, specially assigned to these introductory courses, is actively engaged with coaching, supervision and implementation of policy. Introductory courses are not available for every music study programme.

To be admitted to a preparatory course, you are obliged to pass an audition. This has the form of a music lesson in which your aptitude and musical skills are assessed. You will be judged on musicality, rhythmic feeling, presentation, learning skills and motivation. Your age will be taken into consideration. Basis for the evaluation is a pupil’s capacity to develop adequate skills during the preparatory course that subsequently allow him/her to move on to the Havo voor Muziek en Dans or the Rotterdams Conservatoroire.
