Performance profile

The intake assessment further consists of a recital which lasts no longer than thirty minutes. The candidate will have prepared a programme for the recital which is connected with what he/she aims to develop and research during the study. The intake assessment further consists of rendering at least three music and/or multimedia productions and handing in a recent audiogram. Moreover, the candidate needs to show that he/she can play at least one musical instrument at the level of the final bachelors’ examination in Music Production. A music theory test may be part of the intake assessment. The music and/or multimedia productions which are given, should not be more than 15 minutes long.

Composition profile

The intake assessment further consists of submitting three own (electronic) compositions. The candidate will be assessed on his/her current compositional level and on the possibility of developing his/her own individuality.

Regarding electronic composition, the following are also required:
- a solid mastery of the rudimentary techniques of electronics;
- analogue, digital and hybrid synthesis forms;
- knowledge and experience in using hardware and software in these;
- insight and experience in various forms of sound-spatialisation through loudspeakers.

Testing these takes place on the basis of the candidate’s own compositions and his/her explanation about the steps in the processes which have led to these compositions.

The capacity for innovative sound design plays an important role here.

Level IELTS6

It is essential for the progress of the study that all enrolled students have sufficient skills in speaking, writing and reading English. The course material of the Master will be given in English and the group sessions are carried out in English. For masters’ courses, IELTS6 is required as an international norm. If the candidate cannot submit an IELTS6 statement, the course organisers will give him the opportunity to take an English test through which the English reading and writing ability of the candidate can be measured. Subsequently there are three possibilities:

- The candidate scores IELTS6 or higher: based on this result the candidate is admissible, if the other requirements are met.
- The candidate scores between IELTS5 and IELTS6: all candidates with a score between IELTS5 and IELTS6 have to take an obligatory course programme which lasts about two months. At the end of this programme, an English test will be taken again. These students can still be admitted directly to the course.
- The candidate scores lower than IELTS5: candidates with a score lower than IELTS 5 must arrange to learn somewhere else before the start of the study, so that they are capable of taking the English test and getting a score of at least IELTS 5. These candidates can be admitted conditional, within the discretion of the director.
