the programme

The North-Indian classical music programme gives you the opportunity to study comprehensively one of a range of important classical Indian instruments (including vocals). Moreover, in the ‘sangat’ ensembles you learn to play with accompaniment (or, if you are studying tabla, to accompany a soloist)

Furthering your knowledge of repertoire keeps tread with developing your ability to improvise. At the end of your study you must be able to communicate to your audience a combined feeling of spontaneity and depth that is so characteristic of Indian classical music. Command of your instrument is of central importance during the main subject teacher’s individual lessons.

Master classes hosted by internationally famous specialists form an important part of the study programme. In addition you will follow practical-theoretical subjects like Indian auditory training, Indian music theory, tala, raga and Western auditory training. The study component Indian music and cultural history allows you to investigate the cultural context of Indian music.
