The application procedure for professional arts education deviates from the regular procedure in higher professional education. Prior to admission you will need to do an audition. This will determine whether you meet the admission requirements as described on this website. Each study programme has its own admission procedure accompanied by selection criteria and additional requirements. The contents of the auditions are geared to the demands that the programmes and the professional practice in future will make on the student. A committee made up of teachers of the conservatoire holds auditions.

The audition is a test for talent, knowledge, skills and learning potential for the study programme you apply for. The audition consists of a music theoretical and a practical part. In general, an ear for music, feeling for rhythm, improvisational skills, affinity with music of the chosen main subject, talent, learning potential and motivation will be tested.

You can apply throughout the year, but please do so early (before1 April). On timely receipt of the completed form you will receive a confirmation of receipt and registration from the Education Administration of Codarts. Subsequently you will – or not – be invited to sit for an audition. You will be timely informed about the time and place of the audition. Invitation depends on a pre-selection on the basis of experience and order of receipt of the forms. In general the auditions take place in May and June. Please note that audition fees (€ 60) will be charged for the audition.

Study costs
The statutory tuition fees for the 2009-2010 academic year amount to
€ 1.597 (fulltime programmes). Students who, on the 1st of September 2009, are younger than 30 years and hail from one of the countries in the EU/EER must pay tuition fees. Students aged 30 or older, or having origins outside the EU/EER must pay the institutional tuition fees. The Board of Directors determines this fee annually. Also students following the DIS-programme (contract education) are obliged to pay the institutional tuition fees. For the 2009-2010 academic year, the institutional tuition fees were set at € 3.160. Staggered payment of tuition fees is possible.

For students with:
- a Dutch giro or bank account: to Postbank account 78759 or ABN AMRO account 50 34 24 889, in both cases made out to Codarts, Hogeschool
voor de Kunsten, in Rotterdam;
- a foreign bank account: to the international bank account NL51ABNA0503424889, made out to Codarts, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In this case you should also mention the following Bank Identification Code (BIC): ABNANL2A and address of the bank: ABN AMRO, P.O. Box 2130, 3000 CC Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Students from EU/EER countries can, under certain conditions, receive a partial government refund for tuition fees. If an application has been made in good time, the refund will be paid once annually in the form of a scholarship.

Student grants
As a Dutch citizen between the ages of 16 and 30, you are entitled to a student grant. You must be a full-time student at a college for higher education. The level of your student grant depends on your living accommodation, your parents’ income and your own earnings. If you do not hold Dutch citizenship, you can in certain cases qualify for a student grant. Please consult the nationality chart on www.ib-groep.nl contact the IB-Groep Infolijn (+31-50-5997755). Students who plan to pursue a fulltime advanced study programme, following on from a bachelor programme, also qualify for a student grant. This even applies to students older than 30 years, if the continuation of their study programme follows on directly from a previous study begun before their 30th birthday.

Admission to the Master of Music is only possible after submitting a full study plan and passing an audition. In the study plan, you must formulate your motivation for pursuing the postgraduate programme and describe your ideas and wishes as to the content of your study programme. Admittance is based on how you perform during the audition and the content of your study plan.

After sending in your application form you will receive an email which confirms your application.
An invitation for the audition will be sent separately.
You need to inform the Central Student Administration about any change of (email) address as soon as possible: csa@codarts.nl.

Registering on Studielink (Study Link) and enrolling at Codarts
If you have been admitted to one of the programmes of Rotterdam Dance Academy, Rotterdam Conservatoire or Rotterdam Circus Arts after your audition and you actually want to begin the programme, then you need to register through www.studielink.nl.

In Studielink there is a link to the Informatie Beheer Groep (Information Management Group) to arrange your study finance and OV (public transport) student card.  There is further information on these matters in the admission packet which you will receive if you have successfully passed the audition.
